Common jobs
What we see on BMW cars
Front thrust-arm bushes
Steering shimmy under braking and clunks over bumps are classic signs of worn thrust-arm (tension strut) bushes.
Rear air springs
A rear end that sags or a compressor that runs often points to a leaking air spring on X5, X7 and Touring models.
Adaptive dampers
Suspension warnings or a harsh ride can be a failed adaptive damper or its sensor.
Steering rack and tie rods
Knocks through the wheel or uneven tyre wear are checked at the rack, tie rods and joints.
Signs to watch for
- Knocking or clunking over speed bumps
- Car bounces or floats at speed
- Car leans heavily in corners
- Uneven tyre wear or pulling to one side
- Air suspension sagging overnight or a suspension warning
- Humming noise that changes with speed (wheel bearing)
