What to know about your Volvo
Many newer Volvos are mild hybrids
B5 and B6 models use a 48-volt system with a small extra battery and a starter-generator. Plug-in "Recharge" models add a high-voltage battery.
Eight-speed Aisin automatic
Most Volvos use an eight-speed Aisin automatic. A fluid service helps in hot climates even though it is not on every schedule.
Cabin air matters
Volvo's CleanZone air system relies on a good cabin filter, which clogs quickly in dusty conditions.

Gearbox fluid
The eight-speed automatic is often described as "sealed for life", but heat ages the fluid. A fluid service helps with harsh or delayed shifts.
XC90 air suspension
XC90s with air suspension can sit low or show a suspension message. Air springs, the compressor and height sensors are checked.
B5 / B6 mild hybrid
Newer B5 and B6 models have a 48-volt system with an extra battery. Start-stop or charging warnings need proper diagnosis.
