What to know about your Kia
Shares engineering with Hyundai
Kia and Hyundai share engines and gearboxes, so a Sportage and a Tucson, or a Sorento and a Santa Fe, have a lot in common under the skin.
Older Theta II engines deserve a check
Some Optima, Sorento and Sportage engines were recalled for bearing wear. If you hear a knock, stop and get it checked.
Carnival and Sorento have more electrics
Power sliding doors, tailgates and rear AC add parts that need occasional attention.

Common Kia problems we fix
Theta II engine checks
Older Optima, Sorento and Sportage models with 2.0 or 2.4-litre Theta II engines can suffer bearing wear. A knock, warning light or oil use needs checking quickly.
Carnival sliding doors
Power sliding doors and tailgates can stick or stop part-way. We check motors, cables, latches and sensors, and the door settings.
Small-car servicing
Picanto and Pegas cars that do high daily kilometres (often as work cars) need their oil, brakes and AC checked more often.
AC performance
Weak cooling is traced to leaks, the condenser or the compressor before any gas is added.
