Advice for Audi owners in Dubai. Audi turbo engines and S tronic gearboxes run hot in Dubai traffic. Shorter oil-service intervals and a gearbox fluid service at the right mileage help these cars last much longer in the UAE.
Owner's guide
What to know about your Audi
Fixed or flexible (LongLife) service
Audis can be set to a long flexible service or a fixed one. For Dubai heat and traffic, a fixed yearly or 10,000–15,000 km oil service is the safer choice.
VW 504/507 or 508/509 oil
Most recent Audis need oil approved to VW 504 00 (petrol) or 507 00 (diesel). Some newer engines need thinner VW 508 00 or 509 00 oil, which is not interchangeable unless the handbook allows it.
S tronic and tiptronic are different gearboxes
Smaller and mid-size Audis often use S tronic (dual-clutch), while A6, A7, A8, Q7 and Q8 mostly use an 8-speed tiptronic automatic. They need different fluids and service work.
Not all quattro is the same
Larger Audis use a mechanical centre differential; A3, TT and Q3 use an electronically controlled clutch (Haldex-type or "ultra") that needs its own fluid service.
Repairs
Common Audi problems we fix
2.0 TFSI oil consumption and timing chain
Some 2.0 TFSI (EA888) engines use oil or develop timing-chain tensioner wear, often heard as a rattle on cold start. Early inspection avoids serious engine damage.
Water pump and thermostat housing leaks
The plastic coolant housings on many Audi engines can crack in the heat, causing slow coolant loss and overheating warnings.
S tronic (DSG) gearbox faults
Jerky low-speed driving, delayed take-off or gearbox warnings can come from the mechatronic unit or clutches. Many cases are fixed with a service, adaptation or mechatronic repair rather than a new gearbox.
PCV / oil separator failure
A failed crankcase breather causes whistling, rough idle and lean fault codes. It is a common, straightforward repair.
Air suspension on A6 allroad, A8, Q7 and Q8
Sagging overnight or suspension warnings usually mean an air spring leak or a tired compressor.
MMI and electrical faults
Screen, MMI, sensor and comfort-system faults are traced with full-system diagnostics before any part is replaced.

Models and servicing
| Model | Generations | What we usually see |
|---|---|---|
| A3 / S3 / RS3 | 8V (2012–2020) · 8Y (2020–) | S tronic service and quattro clutch fluid. |
| A4 / A5 | B8 (2007–2015) · B9 (2015–2024) | 2.0 TFSI timing chain, water pump and oil separator. |
| A6 / A7 | C7 (2011–2018) · C8 (2018–) | Mild hybrid on C8, cooling system and MMI faults. |
| A8 | D4 (2010–2017) · D5 (2017–) | Air suspension and comfort electronics. |
| Q5 / SQ5 | 8R (2008–2017) · FY (2017–) | Very common in Dubai: coolant leaks, brakes and AC. |
| Q7 / Q8 | 4L (2006–2015) · 4M (2015–) | Air suspension, 3.0 TFSI cooling and 8-speed servicing. |
| RS models | RS3, RS5, RS6, RS7, RS Q8 | High-performance brakes, oils and cooling checks. |
Fixed or LongLife service. Your Audi shows the next oil service and inspection on the dashboard. On a hot, traffic-heavy cycle we advise the fixed schedule. Check your service booklet for your exact car.
| Item | When | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Engine oil and filter | Yearly or 10,000–15,000 km in Dubai | VW 504/507 or 508/509, as your engine requires. |
| Brake fluid | Every 2 years | After the first change, which may be due at 3 years. |
| S tronic (wet clutch) fluid | Often every 60,000 km | Interval depends on the gearbox type; we check yours. |
| quattro clutch (Haldex-type) fluid | At the booklet interval | A3, TT and Q3 quattro models only. |
| Spark plugs | By mileage or years in the booklet | Worn plugs cause misfires on TFSI engines. |
| Air and cabin filters | Check every service | Dust shortens their life. |
Every Audi that comes in is connected to VW Group diagnostic software that reads every module and can run adaptations and basic settings, and we check:
- Full scan of all control modules
- Water pump and thermostat housing for leaks
- Oil separator (PCV) function
- S tronic adaptation values and clutch wear
- Brake pads, discs and wear sensors
- Air suspension height on A6 allroad, A8, Q7 and Q8
FAQ
Audi questions
Is an independent Audi garage cheaper than the dealer?
Usually yes. We use the same diagnostics approach and quality parts, without dealer overheads, and you approve every estimate before work starts.
Do you repair S tronic gearboxes?
Yes. We diagnose and service S tronic and tiptronic gearboxes, including mechatronic and clutch faults.
Can you code a new battery on my Audi?
Yes. We fit the correct AGM or EFB battery and code it to the car.
Why is my Audi using oil?
Some 2.0 TFSI engines consume oil because of piston-ring or oil-separator issues. We measure consumption over a set distance and check the PCV system before suggesting any engine work.
Is it true my Audi gearbox is "sealed for life"?
Several Audi gearboxes have no fixed fluid interval in the booklet, but heat breaks fluid down. A fluid check, and a change when needed, is cheap insurance.
