What to know about your Volkswagen
Two kinds of DSG
Smaller engines often use a 7-speed DSG with dry clutches, which has no fluid change. More powerful models such as the GTI, Golf R and Tiguan 2.0 TSI use wet-clutch DSGs that need regular fluid services.
VW 504/507 or 508/509 oil
Use oil approved to the VW standard in your handbook. Newer engines may need thin VW 508 00 oil, which is not a substitute for 504 00.
Plastic cooling parts
The 1.8 and 2.0 TSI (EA888) engines use plastic water-pump and thermostat housings. Heat makes them crack and seep, so we check them at every service.
4MOTION clutch service
Tiguan, Golf R and Teramont 4MOTION use a clutch-type coupling that needs its own fluid change at the booklet interval.
Repairs
Common Volkswagen problems we fix
DSG gearbox faults
Juddering, slow take-off or gearbox warnings on 6 and 7-speed DSG gearboxes are often mechatronic or clutch related, and many can be repaired.
Water pump and thermostat leaks
Plastic coolant housings on EA888 engines can crack and leak in the heat.
Timing chain tensioner
A cold-start rattle on 1.8 and 2.0 TSI engines should be checked before the chain jumps a tooth.
Carbon build-up
Direct-injection TSI engines can build up carbon on the intake valves, causing rough running and misfires.
Touareg air suspension
Leaks and compressor faults are common on older Touaregs.

Fixed or LongLife service. Like Audi, VW can run a long flexible interval or a fixed one. For Dubai we recommend the fixed schedule. Your booklet has the exact intervals.

My DSG judders when pulling away. Is the gearbox finished?
Rarely. Judder is often fixed with a fluid service, clutch adaptation or a mechatronic repair. We diagnose it before suggesting anything bigger.
