What to know about your smart
The current fortwo and forfour share parts with Renault
The 453-generation fortwo and forfour (2014–2024) were developed alongside the Renault Twingo and use Renault-built engines, while older 451 models used a Mitsubishi engine.
Two kinds of automatic
Older 451 cars use an automated manual with a clutch actuator. Newer 453 cars can have the twinamic dual-clutch gearbox. Each has its own common faults.
Electric smarts
For EQ fortwo and the newer smart #1 and #3, we handle diagnostics, brakes, suspension, AC and 12V work. High-voltage battery work goes to the dealer.
